ABOUT ME

I first found Chinese Medicine in 2010 while triathalon training when suddenly started experiencing breathing issues which was later diagnosed as "Exercise Induced Asthma".  After following the pulmonologist protocol for a few months and not being satisfied with their "take these medications the rest of your life protocol", I decided to try Acupuncture.  I had immediate breathing relief, which totally captivated me especially since I have always followed a more natural healing path.

Why Acupuncture?

Pain Management

Acupuncture can help alleviate  various types of pain:  numbness, heaviness, cold pain, burning pain, soreness, stabbing, distending, spasmodic, or dull pain.

Wellness & Immune

Wellness is about keeping the body in balance and your immune system boosted throughout seasonal changes, allergies, combating cold & flus, UTIs, headaches, and even herpatic breakouts.

 Mood Disorders

Mood disorders include depression, anxiety,  lack of feelings or motivation, low moods or energy, inablility to concentrate, or PTSD.

Sports Injuries

Acupuncture effectively treats sports injuries by promoting faster healing, reducing inflammation, improving circulation, enhancing range of motion, and triggering endorphin release. It helps alleviate strains and injuries in muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments caused by repetitive or intense activities in athletes.

Digestive Health

Digestive health is important for food to be digested into nutrients for energy and nutrients to be utilized for cellular function. Symptoms left untreated will impact moods, cause inflammation, malabsorption and effect overall health.

Stress

Acupuncture is not only relaxing but is neurologically rebalancing. This is great for emotional, mental, or physical stress. Constant stress causes imbalances in the body that lead to disease and can contribute to adrenal fatigue, insomnia, depression, & anxiety.

What to Expect

Initial Evaluation

Acupuncture points are situated in all areas of the body. Sometimes the appropriate points are far removed from the area of your pain. Your acupuncture practitioner will tell you the general site of the planned treatment.

  • Initial evaluation and treatment may take up to 90 minutes.

  • Subsequent appointments typically take an hour.

  • A common treatment plan for a single complaint would typically involve one or two treatments a week.

  • The number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. (In general, it's common to expect six to eight treatments.)

  • Depending on the treatment site, some clothing may need to be removed (gown or towel provided).

First Acupuncture Treatment

  • Sterile, disposable (filiform) needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. (The needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes little discomfort.)

  • Patients may experience numbing, tingling, warming, or radiating sensations where needles are placed. However, many people feel a deep sense of relaxation and may even fall asleep during treatment.

  • Patients will lay comfortably for 15-20 minutes once needles are placed.

  • Electro acupuncture, cupping, moxabustion, tui na, or therapeutic massage may also be used in addition to traditional treatment.

  • Herbal therapy, supplements, homeopathics, or therapeutic exercises may additionally be recommended.

After Your Treatment

Some people feel relaxed with an overall euphoric feeling and others feel energized after an acupuncture treatment.

Non-Needle Treatments

Many acupuncturists will offer non-needle treatments that range from low level laser therapy, various bodywork therapies, Chinese medicinal herbs, and special body treatments like cupping, gua sha, tui na, and moxibustion.

FAQs:

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: When provided within close enough succession, the effectiveness of each acupuncture treatment typically builds upon the previous one. Depending on the nature of the health concern and the individual response of the patient, the total number of treatments needed can vary quite a bit from patient to patient.

Acute conditions tend to resolve more quickly with an intensive series of treatments. Chronic conditions may require a longer and more consistent course of treatment. The number of required treatments will also be determined by the severity and underlying cause of the health concern. Once a patient has obtained their desired outcome, maintenance treatments may be required in order to sustain optimal results.

At Restorative Acupuncture & Herbs, we will check your progress throughout your treatment plan. We strive to provide you high quality care and will refer you to another healthcare practitioner, if we are unable to help you.

Q: Are the needles reused?

A: No, absolutely not. We do not reuse needles, they are always single use.  After your treatment, the needles are disposed of in a “Sharps” medical waste disposal container.

Q: How should I prepare for a treatment?

A: Please try to wear or bring comfortable clothing to your treatment. This will allow our practitioners to be able to access the acupuncture points with ease, and it will help you to feel relaxed. Please try to avoid eating a heavy meal or skipping a meal before coming to your appointment.
